In conjunction with the exhibition James Maurelle: On-Site, curated and mentored by Odili Donald Odita, CUE is pleased to present Flatted Fifths, a 24-hour performance. Maurelle will explore themes of labor, endurance, and visibility during a live-streamed performance in which the artist will bring part of his studio into the gallery and work in public view from 10am on Friday, October 1 to 10am on Saturday, October 2. Taking place in the front gallery at CUE, visible from the street, Maurelle will perform his own artistic labor amongst his studio workbench, table, and tools, set to a soundscape of jazz and Afrobeat music. The gallery and performance will be open to the public on Friday, October 1st from 10am-6pm. Those who are unable to attend in-person or who wish to watch after gallery hours will find the performance live-streamed on CUE’s homepage.

Please note, masks or face coverings are mandatory upon entry regardless of vaccination status. An optional hands-free thermometer is available upon entry. We will also continue to gather personal information for contact tracing. If you think you have a fever, have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days, or have had close contact with anyone who is confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19, please don’t visit the gallery. Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to seeing you in the gallery!

Visitors do not need to RSVP to view the performance during regular gallery hours, but there may be a wait to enter if the gallery is at full capacity.

If you have access questions or needs, please contact info@cueartfoundation.org (ideally with at least 48 hours before the event) and we will do our best to accommodate you.
