ABOUT THE PROGRAM

ELIGIBILITY
The program is open to New York City high school students in grades 10 and 11 who are interested in exploring careers in the arts (future professional artists, curators, art critics, and more).
While not required, this program is best suited for students who have introductory knowledge or proficiency with one or more artistic mediums, and who feel comfortable expressing themselves through artistic practice.
Program participants should be able to commit to once a week classes held for two hours each Tuesday afternoon from October 2024 to June 2025, with some weeks off for holidays and school breaks. Additionally, participants should be prepared to spend a few hours a week during the Winter/Spring session planning and creating artwork for their final group exhibition.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN APPLICANTS
We seek passionate and artistic participants who seek to collaborate with other like-minded individuals. There is no single formula for a successful application. Although skills in an artistic medium (including but not limited to painting, photography, sculpture, and printmaking) are appreciated, this is not the sole factor for a successful application. We also look for strong team working abilities, unique perspectives, growth potential, curiosity for learning, and willingness to take creative risks.
2024-25 SCHEDULE, LOCATIONS, AND TIMELINE
Classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The Fall session runs from October through December, and the Winter/Spring session runs from late January through June. Class times are after school from 4:30–6:30 pm, and locations vary depending on trips, studio visits, and other planned activities. CTC uses CUE Art Foundation’s gallery space (137 W. 25th Street in Chelsea) as a home base, and all on-site classes will be conducted at the gallery. Additional locations will be released with the program syllabus. Students should plan for sufficient travel time to reach class locations before and after scheduled class times.

HOW TO APPLY
Applications for the 2024-25 CTC program have been extended until September 23, 2024 at 11:59 pm ET. This application will be followed by a brief one-on-one Zoom interview with CTC arts educators between October 2nd–5th. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance to the program the week of October 14, 2024, and class will start the following week on Tuesday, October 22nd.
Interested students can apply online through Submittable. The application consists of:
Biography
A brief questionnaire consisting of short answer and multiple-choice prompts
Three to five (3-5) artwork samples in any medium (choose examples that best represent your creative direction and interests)
Students will be mentored by CTC educators during the upcoming year, and we encourage you to think of the application and interview process as a way to get to know each other, rather than as a test of ability. After a careful review by educators and staff, a class of 15-20 students will be selected to join the program.
We look forward to learning more about what drives you, and to welcoming the 2024-25 class of future artists, curators, writers, gallerists, and educators!
